Picture breakup and very slow channel change

Postby Circuitau » Tue Feb 02, 2010 12:35 am

Hi all , have been using Dvblink with my 2 reamboxes for quite a while, working pretty good.
Now that Dvbsource network version is available I decided to give that a go since I have a few Media Center PCs here.

Had no trouble setting it up at all, but I have 2 major problems when using it.
First and most urgent problem is picture breakup, quite often I get picture breakups from both Dreams.
I suspect its network related as when I moved my server box to a connection onto the main network switch the picture breakups were very greatly minimized for the MCE computer on that switch.
The other Dream is still on the other switch and so is my other MCE box and picture is unwatchable.
It would be a major work to relocate lots of equipment to try all scenarios, so I am asking if there are tweaks I can apply to DVBlink or if this is a known problem
Server box where Dvblink server is running load is low from Dvblink in fact it goes to stanby if thats all thats running.
I have no problems watching HD movies from this server to any other computer in house, so I assume network (gigabit) is generally good.
If I streeam from either Dreambox via HTTP there is no picture breakup at all either.

The other problem is channel change times :( , with Dvblink these were great now with Dvbsource it has slowed down considerably.
This I can live with although it does affect the usage of system as it has blown out to about 6 to 7 seconds sometimes.

I would prefer to stick with Source as network server is more flexible , but unless I can improve picture dropout I will have to go back.

OK I have had some success with my setup now, the HTPC which was having major pixelation and picture dropouts is working fine now.
I have changed the "set affinity" for the Dvblink client program on this machine to only 1 of the 4 processors and it has stopped playing up completely. :D
The machine is Asrock ION 330, I have also set my other HTPC client the same and will see how it goes, but it had not much picture breakup anyway.
I'm not sure why but the improvement is 100% and as soon as I reset the "affinity"it starts to breakup again straight away.

Now my problem is if the Dvblink server restarts affinity goes bacjk to multiprocessor, is this something I can change permanently?

Also had a little success with channel change times, went into regedit and changed "Channel change timeout (s)" from 10 to 5.
It has made an improvement but only marginal.

Oberon can you help me with a "set affinity"solution.

BTW, I have now tried it with release versions and works the same for me.

PS am I able to upgrade from DVBlink for Dreambox to "V2 connected edition", it doesn't appear as an upgrade at the moment ?
