Error while creating DVBLink Satellite

Postby David » Thu Jan 14, 2010 3:40 am

I'm getting this error while attempting to synchronize channels.

Code: Select all
Error while creating DVBLink Satellite

I searched the error on the forums, but the solution seemed to apply only when upgrading from a beta release. I haven't upgraded at all, this is an existing installation and I'm just trying to add one new channel. I don't want to re-install, as it takes about 45-60 minutes to redo all of my channels / guide assignments. I've trade backing them up with GuideTool -- but the import absolutely butchers everything, and I have to do it by hand again.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate with 2 XBOX 360s as extenders.
I'm using two SkyWalker 1's with DVBDream.

Any suggestions?

Hi David,

there is not much that I can do about this Database error. The only suggestion that I can make is to reset your Media Center database and try again setting up DVBLink.

Fred -

Is there anything I can do to preserve my existing channel setup?

I have guidetool, and I donated to enable the extra functionality -- but the backup did not cleanly restore at all.

Thanks,
David

For the restore to work the guide services has to be the same for the current channels as it was when you backed-up your configuration.

Did you read this document: http://1geek1tool.com/2009/11/guidetool/guidetool-faq/how-does-lineup-configuration-backuprestore-works?

This was the kicker here.

Code: Select all
Here is what lineup restore does not do:
Restore the link between a channel and its guide service.

That's where a large amount of time was spent.

Do you understand why it's implemented this way?

To be honest, no I don't understand why -- I was hoping for a quick 1 to 1 backup.

It is, what it is -- but if there is a way to do a 1 to 1 backup, so I can reset the DB and have my channels back exactly as I left them -- that'd be awesome.

Unfortunately it is not possible.

So, I haven't pulled the trigger on the recreate yet.

However, I was looking at that directory today, and I have two mcepg database files.

mcepg2-0.db
and
mcepg2-1.db

The 2-1 seems to be the current file, as it has a last accessed date for today, while the 2-0 file is dated for December 16th as last access / modified. Could the synchronize channels be failing because it's trying to access the 2-0.db, and it should be accessing the 2-1.db?

I have no idea. I'd delete both... there is not much risk involved. Just rename the files instead of deleting if you're unsure.

So, I deleted both (backed them up first). Then I made a fresh DB, which came up as mcepg2-1.db, re-synchronized channels - ran restore lineup, which made no changes (because I had no guide services mapped across).

So, I restored the original mcepg2-1.db, tried synchronize - got same error, so then i ran sychronize from within GuideTool -- and it worked!

Now, I can run sychronize in the Extras library again.

Very strange... but I'm glad its working :-)

Wow that is strange indeed! Well as long as it works... we'll remember this as a Media Center mystery.

Hey,

I had the same error today and I fixed it in a different way.

Just deleted all channels and did the DVBlink setup procedure again and I was able to synchronize again.

Okay... I'm not really sure, if this is a better way to fix it, but at least I wanted to mention it...
