Most likely 2.X will be out of the picture eventually. If DVBLogic are willing to improve user experience with channel configuration, there is no reason for us to keep 2.X alive.

About a week ago I upgraded from 2.4 to 3.0 Beta 3, so far this has been a big hassle. At least once per day I notice that I will get a popup in Media Center that says the dvblink service has stopped and it will be closed, or something similar to that. I am also finding that sometimes I will get an error during a recording that says no tuners are available, and media center ends up recording that message for the duration of the program. I am not sure why I am getting this error, because no tuners were in use prior to the recording starting, and the only tuner I use for HD channels is the hdpvr. To add to this, while media center is recording the error message, I tried to tune to another HD channel and it worked fine.
I am also finding that since installing this version, my media center will frequently lock up for about a minute at a time, and about 1/3 of those times, media center will completely crash.
Not sure what I am doing wrong here, 2.4 was rock solid for me without a single problem.

There is a big architecture difference between 2.X and 3.X, but 3.0 should not crash like that.

Did you uninstall all of DVBLink 2.X before you upgraded?
Do you see anything suspicious in you output.log?

When I first tried to install, I jumped the gun and hit install without uninstalling 2.4, but nothing was installed. After that I did uninstall 2.4 completely.
When I check the output.log, I do see some entries like:
No packet received for 30000 ms. Re-creating the graph
ReleaseGraph from wrong thread (6304), sending message to window thread

Those are the ones that jump out at me, even though to be honest I don't completely understand what they mean.

I am thinking of doing a fresh install of Windows 7, and just starting with 3.0 beta 3, but I want to investigate further first.

So this morning I decided to look into this further.
Now I am finding that I am unable to record channel 279 (Discovery World HD). All 3 of my most recent failed recordings have been on this channel. I checked the log and found this:
[2010/08/14 12:52:16.0545] Channel change requested for channel index '229'
I don't have a channel 229, and what is also interesting is the time the log entry is at, I have media center set to start recording 2 minutes before the show starts, so I am not sure why there was a request to change to a channel that is not listed in my guide almost 8 minutes early? Nobody was watching tv at this time, and only 1 show was scheduled to record on channel 279.
This is the whole log for today:

I should also note that my recording was scheduled to start at noon, there is no activity before noon, or even before the show was to start recording.

Just another update, my HDPVR is refusing to record anything now. Media Center is just recording the screen that says "Sorry, All tuners are occupied by other clients", when in fact, no tuners are in use at the time the program is starting.
I am also getting the popup in Media Center everytime I startup that says "The DVBLink program has stopped responding and you will be returned to Media Center".
I am able to watch other channels through the HDPVR when it is supposed to be recording a different channel.
I think that I am just going to roll my PC back to before I installed 3.0, thank god for Home Server.

According to the official 2.x -> 3.x DVBLink upgrade steps you have to re-create the MCE database. (delete mcepg2-x.db) Without it, dvblink will continue to crash in MCE

I can't seem to locate where it says to delete that file, nor can I locate that file, could you point me in the right direction. I really don't want to give up on 3.0, as it does have a much better ui, and I want to keep moving forward with it.

When will WHS support be implemented for HDPVR? It has been a while since any news has been posted regarding this.

I know, I dragged my feet on this. We are currently looking at WHS, so we should have it in the product soon.

Yes you have :D but as long as it works and it is worth the wait I remain patient.

So get the lead out. :)

MuadDib,

I'd like you to give this a try on WHS. Here is what you have to do:

1. Install DVBLink 3.1 on your WHS (It *must* say 3.1 in the about dialog of DVBLink Server Configuration tool)
2. Install the latest DVBLink for HDPVR 3.0 Beta on your WHS
3. Override the BridgeConfig.exe (C:\Program Files (x86)\DVBLogic\DVBLink2\Sources\HDPVR\BridgeConfig.exe) with the special version attached to this post.

Normally, this version will allow you to select a lineup without having to connect to a Media Center PC. To do this, I read DVBLogic's MC Guide Service file (C:\Program Files (x86)\DVBLogic\DVBLink2\Sources\MC Guide Services\mcepgchannelinfo.xml) directly. This file (mcepgchannelinfo.xml) is created by DVBLogic.
