How to install new version of DVBLink with a minimal effort

Postby Oberon » Mon Jun 15, 2009 10:52 pm

This topic applies to those who have DVBLink Release Candidate version installed and wish to upgrade it to a released version.
It is not needed to re-run TV Setup if you uninstall and re-install DVBLink Server. MediaCenter will pickup your newly re-installed tuners as is with all channels, settings and scheduled recordgins. Just make sure that you have backed up and then restored source configuration xml file.
So what you have to do is the following:
- Save your source(s) configuration file. They are located in <DVBLink installation folder>\Sources\<name(s) of your sources>.
- Uninstall DVBLink source products
- Uninstall DVBLink Server
- Reboot
- Install DVBLink Server
- Reboot
- Install new versions of DVBLink products
- Make sure that name(s) of your newly created sources are the same as they used to be
- Copy your previously saved source configuration file, overwriting the default one, to <DVBLink installation folder>\Sources\<name(s) of your sources>
- Restart DVBLink Server
- Start MediaCenter. You should be able to use your DVBLink channels in MediaCenter as they were configured before

Hi,

Where is the XML file you are talking about?

Thanks,

They are in <DVBLink installation folder>\Sources\<name(s) of your sources>. The actual names differ per product:
- DVBLink for DVBViewer: dvmcebridge_channels.xml and XmlTVChannelMap.xml (optional)
- DVBLink for IPTV: iptvmcebridge_channels.xml and XmlTVChannelMap.xml (optional)
- DVBLink for Dreambox: dbmcebridge_channels.xml and XmlTVChannelMap.xml (optional)
- DVBLink for HDPVR: Config.xml
- DVBLink for DVBDream: DVBDreamBridgeConfig.xml

Hmm, strange thing is that I don't have a XmlTVChannelMap file in my DVBLink installation folder.

XmlTVChannelMap.xml file is only present if you use EPG information from xmltv files.

Hi,

The dbmcebridge_channels.xml seems to have channel numbers. Can we also copy this file into a new install to recover channel numbering?
Thanks

Yes, it will recover all channel mapping information, including channel numbers.

Strange, I use DVBLink for DVBDream, and I have the DVBLink/Sources/DVBDream directory, but no xml file here, only 7 files, of which one has a "today" time stamp (after configuring): DVBDreamBridge.log

Did a search on the xml, but not found on my PC, so how to restore my settings when re-installing (or re-configuring MCE)?
